S.P.I.I.T.A.M.P. Volume II Number 14

I did not forget to do this. I thought I would probably forget to do this. But then, I did not forget.

So click on these words to listen to another hour of me playing records and also talking. This one's pretty good, I think.

Thanks!

Second Period Industries presents: Christmas! (Volume 2)

Here's some more Christmas music for you guys. I'll be back to playing music and talking about things next time. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, I hope you have an awesome end of the year time.

Thanks for being great and listening to my garbage!

Here is the link to the second volume of my Christmas compilation.

Second Period Industries presents: Christmas! (Volume 1)

Guys, I love Christmas. Also, I hate being sick. The two are somewhat related, as someone in my house has been sick in one way or another (and to varying degrees of severity) since the day after Thanksgiving. I just got a text message from my wife saying she thinks she's getting a cold, which is bullshit because she's had like 8 plagues in the past 3 weeks.

So because of all the disease, I didn't really feel up to running my mouth about how terrible I am at playing records on the internet, so I made you a mix tape of Christmas music.

There's secular, religious, instrumental, and vocal Christmas songs on here. It'll basically hose you down with Christmas spirit, even if you don't really like Christmas all that much. I love Christmas, but I totally get that maybe everyone doesn't. That's okay. I'll be back to playing records and talking really really soon.

Here is the link for some Christmas cheer or whatever. I hope you like it.

S.P.I.I.T.A.M.P. Vol.II, Number 13

Hey.

This one's weird. The volume is probably all over the place, unless the Garage Band elves fixed the levels in whatever "mixdown" thing it does for like 3 hours after I finish recording. Whatever, though... these things are supposed to be ephemeral, right?

So, yeah. Here's some music I had that I thought maybe you would want to listen to as well and also some parts where I complain about not getting to go to the Christmas parade because I guess I'm a 12 year old...

I don't have a lot to say about this one.

I think it's pretty good.

S.P.I.I.T.A.M.P. Vol II Number 11

I'm posting this early because tomorrow is American Thanksgiving, BUT when I recorded this I still thought I would post it the day after American Thanksgiving, so I referred to American Thanksgiving in the past tense. I am sorry if this confuses you. I also think it is fun to refer to it as "American Thanksgiving" all the time.

I'm kind of concerned about the sound of this one because all of these songs were ripped from vinyl. I don't care about the hisses and pops, because I think records should should like records, but the mastering of this stuff was all over the place. Get ready to work the volume knob, probably. Sorry.

Anyway, here's these songs I played for you. Thanks for wasting your time listening to my garbage. I'm thankful for you.

Friday, November 16, 2012

Number ten.

Ever have a day where you're doing the stuff you're supposed to do and you're doing it the right way but it just feels...off?

Happens to the best of us, I suppose...

Anyway, here is the tenth one of these things. It's okay. I liked making it. I hope you like listening to it. You're the best. Thanks.

Friday, November 9, 2012

The ninth one...

Hey.

I made you a podcast again.

It's pretty good.

Here it is.

I hope you like it.

Maybe more than 5 people will listen to this one.

Maybe not.

S.P.I.I.T.A.M.P. Volume II Number 8

I don't even know what to write here anymore. You've figured out the formula, right? Guy wants to impose his "esoteric" and "refined" musical tastes on the world so he pretends to be a DJ into Garage Band for an hour and then he keeps doing it. That's where we are.

So here's the eighth one of these things. Serious question: Does anyone know how to put this on iTunes? Also, does anyone know if I can put this there? Because I'm basically uploading other peoples' music. Shhhhhh. Don't tell anybody. Also, should I do that? The whole process seems hard. Basically, I'm asking someone to do it for me. Can you tell? Why am I so lazy and manipulative? I don't know. I'm sorry. Besides, only 8 people downloaded the last one, so I'm 100% aware of the level of popularity I have achieved here.

Okay, so these words are in a different color because they are a link you can click on to download another hour of me playing records and sometimes talking to you. I always leave the end-of-sentence punctuation out of the linked text in sentences like the last one. Is that the right thing to do? Is there a style guide for this sort of thing? Okay, six to eight people... Listen to this thing and leave me a comment or send me an email or something. Thanks for playing along.

Number seven (Halloween).

Here's the Halloween edition of my podcast. It's pretty spooky, I guess.

Click on these words to be terrified out of your mind. (It's not really that terrifying, you guys.)

Thanks for paying attention to me.

Number Six

Oh, hey guys. Here's another one of these damned things for you to hear.

I screwed up on the last one and thought that this would be the spooky Halloween episode, but it's not. I talk about that a little bit.

Do these sound okay? I mean, I'm not an audiophile, you know, I just like to listen to things, and this thing is, by its nature, ephemeral so whatever. It's listenable, right? I am pretty tired right now and I cannot find my phone charger. I had it a few hours ago, but I have no idea where it is now. This is horrible.

Here are the words you click on to download the Second Period Industries Internet Talking And Music Program, Volume II Number 6. Thank you guys so much for paying attention to this. Really.

Oh, and Shannon Smith reminded me on Twitter that I mentioned that you can download my recent appearance on WUOG, 90.5 FM. He's right. You can. Click here to get that. I start playing records about 4 and a half minutes into that file. Someone else talks at first and he's doing a silly accent. That's not me.

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Another hour wasted.

Here's another hour of me playing records and talking a little bit. I realize that I made a mistake, and Halloween's a week farther away than I thought it was. So the next one won't be the Halloween one, but the one after the next one, got it?

Good.

ALSO: I will be playing actual records on the actual radio on Saturday morning from 7-9 AM. I do not expect you to listen, because that is super early, but if you want to, you can go to www.wuog.org and check it out. I may record it, and I may not. I don't know if that's an option at this point.

S.P.I.I.T.A.M.P. Volume II - Number 4

Here I am again. Talking about stuff and playing stuff and just generally doing stuff in general.

I don't know.

I took that microphone back to the store because it was garbage and it sounded all crackly like I was opening a bag of Doritos while I was talking. I was not opening a bag of Doritos.

Hope you guys like hearing more about my messed up tooth. It's basically a huge source of anxiety right now that consumes about 79% of my thoughts all day.

So, here it is. CLick those words. Go get it. There's wrestling music on it and also a Garth Brooks song. You love wrestling music and Garth Brooks songs.

S.P.I.I.T.A.M.P. Volume II - Number 3

So, I did it again. Only nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-seven more until I get to that Malcolm Gladwell "ten thousand hour" level and I'll be an expert. Gladwell said that, right? I don't know. I never read anything by him. I just heard Pete Holmes talking about it on his podcast a couple of times and also I think a couple of people at work were talking about it once, too.

As I have said before, nobody likes to read something on the internet without pictures, so here's a picture:

So, I tried to be a lot more positive about things in this episode, but I guess I'm just one of those humans that kind of seems like he's miserable when he's doing something fun. Because making these things is fun for me. Seriously.

Here's another picture of that phone, but this time I used one of those stupid "vintage" filters because I fancy myself to be some sort of "artist" who takes "photographs" that "matter."

The first one of these I did got downloaded 19 times and the second one got downloaded 13 times. More than a dozen people like this, I guess. Thank you all so very much. As long as you keep downloading them, I'll keep making them.

Here are the words that you click on to download the Second Period Industries Internet Talking and Music Program Volume 2, Number 3.

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I made another podcast.

Yeah, so apparently, I am a podcaster now? I don't like it any more than you do, but this is what my life has become, so I might as well embrace it.

This time I played a bunch of records from this one box on the top of my shelf.

I try to just be "in the moment" about all of this, which is a dumb thing to type, I know, but I'm trying to resist the urge to go back in and re-edit all of the talking parts because of some kind of weird insecurity I have about the things I say and probably the way I sound when I say them, but this just feels like I'm subconsciously (or just regular consciously) fishing for compliments, so whatever, right?

Right.

So, thanks to all 16 of you who downloaded the last one I did. Here's another one. All you have to do is click on these words to download the Second Period Industries Internet Talking And Music Program, volume II, number 2. Thanks. I hope you like it!

Friday, September 14, 2012

I made a podcast.

Do you want to listen to me talk and play some records. Probably not. I wouldn't either. The difference is that I have to do it. Anyway, Here is the Second Period Industries Internet Talking and Music Program Volume II, Number 1. For real. There it is. Just click on the word "here". Your computer will do the rest. Thanks.

Second Period Industries Summer Mix Tape 2012

 Oh, hey guys.

Man, do I ever hate the summer. The oppressive heat, the relentless humidity and the incessant shrieking of cicadas drive me right up to the edge of insanity. Also, they make me spend a lot of time on indoor activities where I can kill what's left of the planet by running my air conditioner 24 hours a day. Activities like making this mix of summer jamz for you. You're welcome.

Okay, this one really just started with an experiment to see if I could throw some songs (and other audio things) together and create a kind of "flow" over the course of an hour. I'm not, like, beat matching or cuttin' it up on the turntables or anything, just trying to see what I can do. I'm not sure if it worked or not, but I did manage to get synthpop, traditional metal, southern rock, country, soul, rap and African pop to work together in a way that sort of makes sense. I think. Maybe I should quit bragging and just show you the track list.

  • Futurecop! - Karate
  • The Fun & Games - Elephant Candy
  • Keith Allison - Action, Action, Action
  • Riot - Road Racin'
  • The most annoying wrestling entrance theme ever. (American Males)
  • White Witch - Home Grown Girl
  • Wynonie Harris - Git With the Grits
  • Treacherous Three - Gotta Rock
  • Harlow Wilcox & His Oakies - Cripple Cricket
  • Johnny Paycheck - Big Swamp Land
  • Bobby Freeman - C'Mon and Swim
  • Dexys Midnight Runners - Thankfully Not Living in Yorkshire It Doesn't Apply
  • Judas Priest - White Heat, Red Hot
  • Blind Willie McTell - Kill It Kid
  • Tommy Tucker - Before the Weekend Is Done
  • Monster Rally - Blame
  • City Boys Band Led by Obuoba J.A. Adofo - Osu A Meresu
  • Mary Weiss - Don't Come Back
  • Agent Orange - Breakdown
So, yeah... click here to download this mix tape and waste an hour of your time listening to some stuff I threw together.

Let me know what you think. If you don't leave a comment, I'll just assume you hate me and then I'll get all sad.

More Country Music from the United States Military!

Why can't Wikileaks or whoever cyber-hack into the mainframe that stores all the United States military's music library and make that stuff public? I mean, sure, we should all care about the drone attacks on puppies and kittens that I imagine are carried out daily, but what about all those radio shows that we can't hear? Huh? What about them, Uncle Sam?

I have no idea what I am talking about.

Here are four episodes of Country Music Express from the summer of 1972. The record skips on one of these shows. You'll be okay.

Look at what I did!

Everyone knows that print is dead, so to celebrate that fact, I went and made a fanzine! What a good idea! It's called The Atomic Elbow and it's about professional wrestling, which is one of the best things ever.

It's 48 pages of me and some other folks (namely Scott T. Holland, Box Brown and Patrick Dean. Featuring photos by Zia Hiltey) writing and drawing about rasslin', and I know I'm biased, but I think it's pretty good.

It's got stuff in it about Bob Mould.

It's got a comic about Andre the Giant and Bad News Brown, it's got an interview with UltraMantis Black, and it's got an almost 9,000 word essay about Halloween Havoc 2000.

Also, the first 100 copies come with a limited edition set of three one-inch buttons featuring UltraMantis Black, the UltraMantis Black logo and the Atomic Elbow logo.

The first printing is sold out, but you'll still get an Atomic Elbow logo button and a special edition Atomic Elbow mystery poster. (I mean, it's really an 11" x 17" photocopy, but I can call that a poster, right? I say I can. And I say it's a "poster".) I'm not going to show you what the poster looks like on the internet. You've gotta order a copy to find out.

You probably want one of these, right? I hope you do.

You can get one by sending me five dollars through paypal. If you live in Canada or Mexico, please send seven (American) dollars. If you live in a country that isn't the USA, Canada or Mexico, please send nine (American) dollars. The email address to use is secondperiod[at]gmail[dot]com. Or, you can do it the old-timey way and send me the cash in the mail. The address is 231 Rhodes Drive / Athens, GA / 30606.

Please buy my wrestling fanzine!

Thanks!

Where have I been this time?

I have been working on a thing. That's where.

This is the thing I have been working on.

The cover'll probably look slightly different in its final version. You can see it in April, probably. It'll be pretty good.

Still watchin' rasslin'

If you're in Athens one week from tonight (on Tuesday the 24th), you should come by the Flicker Bar and watch some wrestling tapes with me. It'll be fun!

Let Me Ruin Your Evening

Here's a mix tape I made for you that is all songs from movies. I have seen some of them and I have not seen some of them. The sound quality varies pretty wildly on this, as it is a compilation of things I "found" online as well as stuff sourced from CD, vinyl, cassette, DVD and VHS by me. None of it has enough "mp3 wobble" to render it unlistenable, though. I usually don't post track lists for my mix tapes in advance, but since the artist and title listing of this one doesn't always identify the movie, I'll just leave this here:

01: "Baby Lied" - Rick Bowles (Neon Maniacs)
02: "Holly's New Room" - Carlo Maria Cordio (Troll 2)
03: "Tall Man on Main Street" - Fred Myrow & Malcolm Seagrave (Phantasm)
04: "Escape Invasion" - John Harrison (Day of the Dead)
05: "Megaforce" - 707 (Megaforce)
06: "Chase" - Giorgio Moroder (Midnight Express)
07: "Training Montage" - Vince DiCola (Rocky IV)
08: "Sully Runs" - James Horner (Commando)
09: "Thrashin'" - Meat Loaf (Thrashin')
10: "Punk Parade" - Alex Gibson (Suburbia)
11: "Retribution Opening" - Alan Howarth (Retribution)
12: "The 4 Monsters Attack Tokyo" - Akira Ifukube (Destroy All Monsters)
13: "Furious Waves" - Jon McCallum (Surf Nazis Must Die)
14: "Kumite" - Paul Hertzog (Bloodsport)
15: "Il Purgatorio" - Nino Oliviero & Riz Ortolani (Mondo Cane)
16: "Main Title" - Vic Mizzy (The Ghost & Mr. Chicken)
17: "Disco Hits!" - David Byrne (True Stories)
18: "Best of the Best" - Stubblefield & Hall (Best of the Best)
19: "Bus Chase / Cocaine" - Harold Faltermeyer (Tango & Cash)
20: "Stand on Your Own" - Paul Gilreath (No Retreat No Surrender)
21: "Fight Fire With Fire" - Eddie Ray Wolfe (American Ninja 4)
22: "Dunwich Horror - Main Title" - Les Baxter (The Dunwich Horror)
23: "Dead Body" - Michael Kamen (Die Hard)
24: "Love Theme From 'Logan's Run'" - Jerry Goldsmith (Logan's Run)
25: "Main Title" - Basil Poledouris (Red Dawn)
26: "Something to Remember Me By" - Tangerine Dream (Three O' Clock High)
27: "Thunder In Your Heart" - John Farnham (Rad)

Go get it!
